31-year-old South African Media personality, Bonang Matheba announced her t-shirt line and it’s already making the rounds. This won’t be the first time the media mogul is making her mark as a businesswoman.
She’s developed a knack for making money make her money and that’s every entrepreneur’s dream. These are the three key lessons we’ve learned from the powerhouse.
1. If you have a platform, monetise it.
Anyone looking to learn a thing or two about monetizing their influence needs to take a cue from South Africa’s media darling, Bonang Matheba.
The star has announced that she will be producing a t-shirt line customized with some of her favorite phrases.
The T-shirts feature some of Bonang’s favorite phrases, including ‘Mo’Ghel’ and ‘Give the people what they want’.
The phrases became popular following season one of Bonang’s reality show, Being Bonang which she’s capitalized upon to ensure she’s making more money outside of the paycheck she’s receiving from the tv station. She understands how celebrity works and she’s not afraid to utilize it to her full potential.
2. Strategic partnerships are always a good idea.
The T-shirts are a limited edition and will be done in collaboration with top South African fashion brand, Spree. This isn’t the first partnership for the young media mogul; In the past, Matheba has partnered with Woolworths for her Lingerie line: Distraction and has been selected as a brand ambassador for the International cosmetics line, Revlon.
3. Create a Teaser Campaign
Queen B shared three pictures from a photo shoot for her T-shirt line on Instagram creating some anticipation for what’s to come. This is called ‘a teaser’ in digital marketing jargon. Making the announcement to her 2million followers, she wrote:
“… Introducing Bonang By Bonang Matheba…” she captioned a picture of herself wearing one of the T-shirts.
“I’m a workaholic!! To the #BForce… let’s sparkle & shine dolls, I’m FOREVER grateful to you for your consistent love & support! WE DID IT! To God be the glory,” she wrote on Instagram.
